Nyanda

Biography

2013 marked the start of a new chapter for the multi-talented singer/songwriter Nyanda Thorbourne, known to the world as Nyanda from the chart topping Pop/Reggae duo Brick & Lace. Born to a Jamaican father and an American mother, both of whom are musical, she was raised on the sounds of reggae, R&B, Hip Hop and Country – which explains the trans-eclectic sound you hear reverberating from her music.

Nyanda entered the music business in the late 90s singing background vocals for Jamaican icons Marcia Grifiths, Beres Hammond and Diana King. In 2006, Brick & Lace was signed to Konvict / Universal and shortly after released their debut album, Love is Wicked. Their album spawned 4 successful singles…Never Never, Get That Clear, Bad to do di Bone and the game changer Love is Wicked, which entrenched itself on 6 different European charts for over 48 weeks – its highest entry being Top 5 on France’s Top 100 Singles.

With over 40 Million Youtube Views, Brick & Lace were catapulted into the spotlight, touring North America with Akon and Gwen Stefani, followed by sold out solo tours of Europe and Africa.

In 2010, Nyanda and her sisters launched Bloodline, a prolific songwriting team Published by Sony ATV. Their credits include, chart topping single Follow The Leader (Wisin & Yandel ft Jennifer Lopez), All Around The World (Christina Aguilera), Say Yes (Nicole Scherzinger) and Shotgun (Leah Labelle ft Brian Cross) to name a few.

The success of Brick & Lace and Bloodline had Nyanda wanting more. Her dream was to one day do a solo album to discover and express sides of herself that had never been seen before. "I want to leave my mark on Reggae Music" expresses Nyanda, "There are not many female artists in Reggae music, and none have crossed over into Pop culture since Diana King. I want to change that."

The release of her first solo single, Trouble, in January 2013 set the tone for Nyanda's solo journey…a dancehall remix of Taylor Swift's smash, I Knew You Were Trouble, spent over 10 weeks on the UK's Music Week Urban Club Chart (6 weeks in Top 30) and dominated airwaves in East Africa and the Caribbean. "With every single, I want to try and reinvent myself" expresses Nyanda as she promotes her new single Slippery When Wet to France's # 1 Music Channel, TRACE TV.

Nyanda's second single, Slippery When Wet is playful, yet provocative and like Trouble, it debuted on the UK's Music Week Urban Club Chart and has climbed every week since entering (now sitting in the Top 20). "This record is a creeper…It makes the phone go crazy when I play it", states UK's DJ of the year, Epik International. Currently playlisted in more than 6 countries (including Jamaica, UK, South Africa and Uganda) Nyanda is now touring and connecting with her exploding fan base that increases by close to 6,000 people per week on Facebook.
