Biography

Victoria Louise Lott (better known as Pixie Lott) was born on 12 January 1991. She’s a BRIT Award nominated, English singer-songwriter, actress and dancer signed to Mercury Records in the United Kingdom and Interscope Records in the United States. Her debut single “Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)” was released on 6 June 2009 and went straight to number one in the UK Singles Chart. Pixie’s follow-up single “Boys and Girls” also topped the UK charts in September 2009. Her debut album, “Turn It Up” was released on 14 September 2009 and reached number six in the UK Albums Chart and has since been certified platinum.

Her second album “Young Foolish Happy” was released on 14 November 2011. The lead single, “All About Tonight”, debuted atop the UK Singles Chart, becoming her third UK number-one hit.

Her third studio album “Pixie Lott” was released on 1 August 2014. Its lead single “Nasty” was released on 7 March 2014 peaked at number nine on the UK Singles Chart, making it her sixth Top 10 single in the United Kingdom.

Early and personal life

Pixie was born in Bromley, South East London. She lives in Brentwood, Essex. She has an older brother and sister. Her mother gave her the nickname Pixie because she was a “tiny, cute baby” who looked like a fairy.

After she started singing in her church school, Pixie attended the Italia Conti Associates Saturday school in Chislehurst from 5 years old, she went onto the main school at 11 Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, where she was awarded a scholarship. At the age of 13, Lott moved with her family to Brentwood, Essex. During her time as a student, she appeared in the West End production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium and in BBC One’s Celebrate the Sound of Music as Louisa von Trapp. At the age of fourteen she was part of the chorus line, recording vocals on Roger Waters’s opera Ça Ira. Pixie attended Brentwood County High School, where she returned on Friday 5th February 2010, to perform her latest hits, as well as reiterating the importance of going to school to the current students. Despite missing school time because she was recording her album, Lott gained straight ‘A’ grades in her GCSEs. She is currently in relationship with Oliver Cheshire.

Career

L. A. Reid heard one of her demos and signed her to the Island Def Jam Music Group when she was fifteen, but after a change of managers a bidding war ensued, resulting in her now being signed to Mercury Records in the United Kingdom and to Interscope Records in the United States.

Pixie played her first festival concert in the Big Top at the Isle of Wight Festival 2009, during her first full British tour, where she supported The Saturdays on The Work Tour.

She released her debut single “Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)” on 8 June 2009. The video was released on MySpace in Lott’s news section and has gained in excess of two million views on YouTube. It entered both the iTunes chart and the UK Singles Chart at number one, after over 50,000 sales. Pixie was quoted as being shocked at the success of the single. The song was also recorded in Simlish for Electronic Arts’ The Sims 3. It spent one week at number one, eleven weeks within the top forty and eighteen weeks within the top seventy-five. The single also had considerable success outside the United Kingdom, reaching the top forty in eleven other countries, including top ten peaks of number eight in Denmark and number ten in France. The single was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry on 28 August 2009 after selling over 200,000 copies in the United Kingdom.

Her second lead single “Boys and Girls” was released on 6 September 2009 and topped the UK Singles Chart on 13 September 2009. During the week in which it reached number one, the single sold just under 50,000 copies. It has so far spent nine consecutive weeks within the top seventy-five and eight consecutive weeks within the top forty of the UK Singles Chart. The single has been accompanied by a music video and was directed by Diane Martel.

On 15 August 2009, Pixie was featured alongside Hoobastank, The All-American Rejects, Kasabian, Cobra Starship, Dizzee Rascal, Boys Like Girls, Estranged and Raygun as one of the live acts at Asia’s very first MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia concert, that was held in Malaysia.

Her debut album “Turn It Up” was released on 14 September 2009. The album debuted at number six on the UK Album Chart. The album has sold over 600,000 copies in the United Kingdom, over 1 million copies worldwide, and was certified Double-Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry in August 2010.

Pixie wrote a song for Alexandra Burke’s debut album Overcome, titled “You Broke My Heart” and a song for Girls Can’t Catch titled “Happy Alone”, which was feautured as a free Christmas present download on their website. She also wrote two tracks on Lisa Hordij, the Dutch X Factor’s winners album, they are titled “No Good For Me” (first single off of album) and “Promises, Promises.”

Her third single from the album “Cry Me Out” was released on 23 November 2009. The music video was directed by Jake Nava and was shot in Cuba.

The fourth single “Gravity” was released in the United Kingdom on 8 March 2010. The video premiered on Channel 4 on 6 February 2010.

Lott was chosen as the face of Nokia’s Illuvial Pink Collection mobile phone range.

“I spend loads of time on my mobile, so it’s important to me that it looks good. The phones in the range all look fab – they’re stylish and yet still girlie.”

“The Way The World Works” from Pixie’s debut album was used in the U.S.-produced Private Practice. Lott was nominated for British Breakthrough Act, British Female Solo Artist and British Single at the 2010 BRIT Awards. Lott also served as the opening act of Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth Tour in the UK 7–26 May 2010. She also performed on the main stage at the V Festival in August 2010.

Pixie was cast as Judy, Fred Figglehorn’s crush, in the film Fred: The Movie, starring alongside Lucas Cruikshank. The comedy was released on America’s Nickelodeon channel on the 18 September 2010, and is scheduled to be released in UK theatres in November.

The fifth single from Lott’s album, the title song “Turn It Up,” was released on 7 June 2010. Lott recorded a song for the film Street Dance 3D, titled “Live For The Moment,” which is also featured on the soundtrack. On 23 May 2010, Lott performed at the Radio 1 Big Weekend in Bangor, North Wales and on 4 July 2010 she performed at T4 on the Beach in Weston-super-Mare.

The deluxe version of album “Turn It Up Louder” was released on 17 October 2010 in the UK and Ireland. The album included her single “Broken Arrow.”

The CrazyCats Tour was the first concert tour by Pixie in support of her debut studio album “Turn It Up.” The tour began on 23 November 2010 and ended on 18 December 2010. Over the four week touring period, she performed to over 40,000 people.

Pixie’s second album “Young Foolish Happy” was released on 7 November 2011. It debuted at #18 on the UK Albums Chart, selling 18,503 copies in its opening week. On 10 February 2012, it was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), denoting shipments in excess of 100,000 within the UK.

The lead single “All About Tonight” debuted at #1 on the UK Singles Chart with first-week sales of 88,893 copies (the highest of Pixie’s career). Lott got her third number one.

Her second single was “What Do You Take Me For?” featuring rapper Pusha T, the music video premiered on 6 October 2011. The single debuted at number ten in the UK.

“Kiss the Stars” was released on 29 January 2012 as third single from the album, peaking at number eight on the UK Chart, making “Young Foolish Happy” her first album to produce three consecutive top 10 singles.

Pixie was featured on Tinchy Stryder’s single “Bright Lights”. The collaboration between Stryder and Lott came about after they met at the 2011 BRIT Awards ceremony, and after developing a friendship, decided to record a song together. The pair came up with the idea of a story which could be told from both the female and male perspective. After recording two different versions of the song, Lott took the female perspective version, and included it on her second studio album “Young Foolish Happy,” labelling it “Bright Lights (Good Life) Part II.” The single was released on 2 March 2012 and debuted at number seven in the UK.

Pixie’s third album “Pixie Lott” was released on 1 August 2014 and debuted at #15 on the UK Albums Chart.

The lead single “Nasty” was released on 9 March 2014 and debuted at number nine, selling 30,812 copies in its first week. It was her first lead single which didn’t debut atop the UK Singles Chart. “Nasty” was originally recorded by Christina Aguilera as a duet with Cee Lo Green for the 2010 film Burlesque but was never released. The song was produced by Jack Splash.

Her second single from her self-titled studio album was “Lay Me Down” and released on 25 July 2014. The music video was filmed in Cannes, France.

The third single was “Break Up Song”. Pixie’s boyfriend Oliver played the love interest in the music video.

In August 2014, it was announced that Pixie will be appearing in the twelfth series of Strictly Come Dancing. She was partnered with Australian professional dancer Trent Whiddon.
